Cantairí Chonamara choir presents ‘A Lifetime of Notes’, a tribute to the life and work of Irish musician, singer and composer Tomás Ó Canainn (1930-2013). 

The concert will celebrate the extensive range of Ó Canainn’s creative work, including a selection of his compositions for different combinations of choral voices, pieces for strings, original traditional music and poetry, accompanied by orchestral and traditional instruments and soloists. 

Ó Canainn was an Irish Uilleann piper, accordion player, singer,composer, researcher, writer and lecturer. He was honoured as Chief Bard at the 2004 All-Ireland Fleadh Ceoil.

Born outside Derry he later moved to Cork, where he studied music with Seán Ó Riada, and lectured there after Ó Riada's death. He taught uilleann pipes at the Cork School of Music and wrote  books on traditional music and poetry and a biography of Seán Ó Riada.

He was perhaps best known as a founder member of the popular group Na Filí in the 1960s and 1970s.
